Just to make it clear, let me state this emphatically – “I love everything Audrey Hepburn related.” I have loved all her movies all my life. I grew up on her movies. Who can forget Breakfast at Tiffanys? Sabrina? War & Peace? My Fair Lady? She was brilliant as Sister Luke in “A Nun’s Story.” I will never forget her playing the sheltered princess in “Roman Holiday.” She was cute & tough in “Funny Face” & tough & vulnerable at the same time in “Wait Until Dark.” A picture of unhappiness in “2 for the Road” where the car becomes a central character in the story.
But my all time favourite Audrey Hepburn movie – “Charade” with Cary Grant! This movie has so many twists & turns, good guys becoming bad guys & vice versa, you’re never quite sure who is doing what to whom. Near the beginning of the movie Audrey’s character is talking with another skier at the resort & they are comparing notes. One of them can’t remember the name of the ski instructor, so they refer to him as “Benzeknees” which he is famous for saying. And this saying has stuck with me all these years. Every time I start to do something new, I remind myself to Benzekneees. For me this phrase signifies learning something new & this is why it became the title of my blog – I am learning something new. I am learning to write for other people to read again.
So now that little mystery is solved, let’s see if I can get back to more posts on a more regular basis.

Benzeknees? Is that because the ski instructor had an accent? They were in the snowy Swiss Alps he was telling the new skiers to ‘bend their knees’? That’s how I imagine it anyway 🙂

You are exactly right! Have you seen this movie? I think it’s one of the best because there are so many plot twists & turns – it takes a long time to figure out who to root for. Thanks for reading my blog!

Oh how delightful! I’m an Audrey lover myself, and my mother in law gave me A Nun’s Story on DVD for Christmas this year. I haven’t seen it yet, but now I’m looking forward to seeing it even more. I also love Charade. Seen it many times, but I just don’t remember that part. Maybe I haven’t seen the beginning. (I’m a huge Cary Grant fan as well.) I just read a book that you may find fascinating about Audrey if you haven’t already read it.

Oh, what a wonderful looking book – I’ll have to see about reading it.
Benzeknees comes fairly early in the movie – Audrey is skiing in the Alps while her husband is getting killed. She is having a talk with her friend who has the little boy who loves stamps & it comes into their conversation.

Okay, gotcha, I’ll have to watch it again sometime soon.
It’s really a great book. It’s about how Audrey was really a dancer, how she revolutionized fashion, and some about her husband Mel Ferrar-not a very nice guy. I loved it. One of the few books I’ve actually bought. Ha ha. Usually go to the library.

Not so much a secret as I fully admitted to this, but you probably know more than some of my other followers who have never read this post.

I just never think to go to peoples bios and about pages. Which is silly, because my about page rocks.

When I am considering following someone, I often check out a few posts & their About page so I know what the original premise of their blog was about. If their About page says they are interested in re-building muscle cars, I’m probably not going to follow them.

Benze what a faaaaaaaaabulous post on Audrey!!!!!
And OMG…I totally forgot about “A Nun’s Story.” You’re right…she was BRILLIANT because you truly believed she was a NUN!

Thank you for sharing that because I was wondering what your blog name referred to. That is sooooooooooooo cool!
““Charade” with Cary Grant!”
GREAT film! Cary Grant was another one I loved. I have the movie “Penny Serenade” with Irene Dunne. That was probably my favorite movie of his because he really showed what a talented dramatic actor he was, as well as comedic. He ripped my heart out with his performance in that film.

Is that the film where he & his little family lived in an apartment at the top of a set of stairs & their daughter was sick?
