As some of you may know all of my children live in Winnipeg, Manitoba. However, my daughter Sam was visiting her father’s family in Calgary last week, so we made arrangements for us to drive down, pick her up for a couple days visit & drive her back.

We left to drive to Calgary on July 3 in time to make it to Calgary at approx. 1 p.m.  It’s a 3 hour drive each way.  We picked up Sam & drove straight back to Edmonton.  Two days & nights of talking & reminiscing were heavenly.

We drove her back to Calgary on July 6.  When we left Edmonton it was a bright sunny day, but the sky clouded over the farther south we drove.  The highway between Edmonton & Calgary is a straight shot & the speed limit is 110 kms. per hour although most people drive about 130.  We were clipping along at a good pace with Sam driving when suddenly we came to a huge traffic jam on the double lane highway right outside Airdrie.  We couldn’t see any reason for the jam up until we crawled along for a couple more kms. where we found the reason – Hail!

There was so much hail it looked like there had been a snowfall.   The heavy rain & hail kept up for the rest of the drive into Calgary & back to Airdrie (about an hour total).  Then we drove out of it & the clouds cleared up the closer we got to Edmonton.
