We all have to do our part to save these beautiful animals!
Warning: the pictures in the video below are distressing. I’m not ashamed to admit that I cried when I saw them. If we don’t help these magnificent animals, they won’t be around for much longer. We are brutalising them into extinction.
I don’t usually do grim here at The Laughing Housewife, but I saw this story on Sky News and I have to share it. I have included a short extract but I beg you to read the whole story and watch the accompanying video.
The number of rhinos killed in South Africa looks set to exceed last year’s record total.
With just three months left in 2013, the number of rhinos killed is more than 500 and appears almost certain to top 2012’s death toll of 668.
One man doing his fair share [to help] is veterinarian Dr William Fowlds who is the founder of Rhino Lifeline.
Dr Fowlds…

Oh yes, my friend. We need to raise awareness. I’m so distraught. The terrible things we do to a living creature is beyond comprehension.

We need to cut out the demand for whatever products are made from the rhino horn so people will stop doing this to them! Surely there is something to be chemically produced to mimic whatever properties in the horn? Even if we set up employment programs in these countries, someone will always want to take the easy way out. Only by cutting out the demand can we hope to stop this useless cruelty!

I know, I agree, just like the poor bear bile – whatever they think it does could def be replicated synthetically and save these creatures

Bava! I applaud you for sharing this video clip because as hard as it is to view, it’s something we NEED to look at and see. It blows me away how we do this to animals. And not only to rhinos, but dolphins, tigers, elephants, etc.
“We all have to do our part to save these beautiful animals!”
Amen! And again, thank you for sharing this very important awareness.

I have 3 things I will stand up for without equivocation – animal rights, women’s rights & gun control. I couldn’t NOT pass this message along!

It is important Tilly – I hope we can spread the message around the world so people will stop buying the products & delete the demand causing this cruelty.

The only “properties” in rhino horn, or bear bile, or deer antler, actually only exist inside superstitious heads. Even if they were real, substitutes would be refused. Unthinking dogma rules! 😦

We have to keep trying though to get through to these people! Even if we only change a few minds this time, maybe it will save one animal this year & then next year we can save a few more. It might have to be a process as we educate the superstitious people.
